New Zealand flights look like they could be disrupted for days as ash from the Chilean volcanic eruption drifts across the country.

The Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano in Chile began erupting on June 4, with the ash plume drifting thousands of kilometres across the South Atlantic, South Africa, Indian Ocean, Tasmania and now across New Zealand.

More than 60 New Zealand flights have been cancelled and over 7000 passengers have been stranded at Airports over the weekend.

Air New Zealand will continue to fly but at lower altitudes however Jetstar and Quantas have both cancelled a number of flights as the ash cloud drifts closer.

If you are one of the unlucky travellers stuck at an airport right now, visit Transfercar or give us a call as we may be able to find you a free car or campervan to drive!

For most people, travel is about seeing new places, experiencing new things and meeting new people. Apart from the fact that travel can take time and cost money, there is also a small matter of what to take with you when you set out on your next expedition.

I believe that travellers can improve their overall experience by simply learning what to do without, and only taking those things which are essential for a safe and healthy trip.

Here’s a list of the top 10 things to take on the road:

Recently, Transfercar had the pleasure of partnering up with Randall and his team at Road Runner Rentals in Christchurch, who offer quality, easy to drive campervans and motorhomes for local and international travellers in New Zealand.

I’m often on the phone with Randall, discussing new deals and relocation options for travellers and find the Roadrunner crew to be a really friendly and accommodating bunch who will always do that little bit extra for their customers.

We frequently encourage our staff to jump on a relocation deal and experience the journey themselves, from requesting a vehicle to returning it as a driver.

In the beginning of March I chose to relocate a 3-berth campervan for Travel Wheels from Brisbane to Sydney. The vehicle was listed on Transfercar’s website, allowing three days to travel the distance. I brought my partner along and we flew in to Brisbane from Sydney on a Thursday afternoon after work with Tiger Airways, which cost us only $35 p/p all included. A friend of ours picked us up from the airport and we went to the Riverside for some drinks and oysters before staying over at his place.

On Friday morning we picked up the campervan from the Travel Wheels depot, which was a bit out of town but easily accessible with public transport. As we only had 3 days to relocate, it is advisable to pick up the campervan as early as possible so not to waste any time. We were there at 10 am and the vehicle check and instructions from the friendly staff took only 10 minutes.
